Tenerife starts at 3,715 metres.
Which Teide day actually gets you on the cable car. Where the resident pilot whales are, in every month of the year. What a turtle snorkel costs. Every tour on the island, reviewed and ranked.
The tours Tenerife books before anything else.
Every review →Ranked by how many travellers have actually been. The water park at the top is not a filing error — Siam Park outsells every volcano tour on the island, and it is not close.

Mount Teide is the whole trip’s centre of gravity.
Spain’s highest peak sits inside a caldera sixteen kilometres across, and you drive over the floor of it to get there. The cable car lifts you to 3,555 m in eight minutes; the last stretch to the crater rim needs a free national-park permit booked long before you fly. Pick the day that matches how high you actually intend to go.
Tenerife’s pilot whales never migrate.
The water between the south-west coast and La Gomera runs deep and warm within sight of the harbour walls, and a population of short-finned pilot whales lives in it permanently instead of passing through. The strip was named a Whale Heritage Site, the boats hold their distance, and there is no season to miss.
All whale and dolphin trips →What a day out on Tenerife actually costs.
Every reviewed tour on the island, sorted by the price you pay per person. The cheap end is not the thin end here — some of the best hours on Tenerife cost less than lunch on the front.
Park tickets, surf lessons, turtle snorkels and the cable-car run. Most of the island’s best mornings live in this band.
The full-day classics: Teide with hotel pickup, whale cruises with lunch aboard, Masca and the north coast in one loop.

Four Tenerife bookings that will not wait.
Most of this island can be arranged from your hotel the night before. These four cannot: they run on national-park permits, timed entry and boats that hold a dozen people.
- 01Mount Teide Summit Hiking Adventure with Cable CarThe path above the cable-car station needs a free national-park permit, issued online and claimed months ahead. Guided summit days carry their own allocation.
- 02Mount Teide Tour with Cable Car Ticket & TransferTimed slots, and the cable car shuts whenever the wind gets up at the top station. Turning up on the day is not a plan.
- 03Los Cristianos Respectful No-Chase Whale and Dolphin SafariThe quiet no-chase boats take a dozen passengers and go out twice a day. They fill first, all year.
- 04Siam Park Entry TicketsEntry is dated, and school holidays fill the park. The fast passes go before the tickets do.
What a week on Tenerife is actually made of.
The volcano, the water and the green north. Six days most itineraries end up containing whatever the plan said in January, and the best way to book each one.
Three things you can only do on Tenerife.
Water parks and boat trips exist everywhere. An observatory-grade night sky on a volcano’s shoulder, a whale population that never leaves, and vines plaited into ropes do not.

The Teide Night Sky
The trade winds park a lid of cloud at around fifteen hundred metres and the summit stands a clear mile above it, which is why an observatory sits on the ridge and why the air over the caldera is some of the steadiest anywhere. Tours drive up after sunset with telescopes; night access to the park is licensed, so you go with a guide or you do not go.

The Teno-Rasca Whales
The shelf drops away fast off the south-west coast, and the water between Tenerife and La Gomera stays deep, warm and sheltered enough that short-finned pilot whales live there rather than migrate through. It was the first stretch of sea in Europe named a Whale Heritage Site. The boats work to distance rules, so a good trip is a quiet one.

The Orotava Cordón Trenzado
In the Orotava valley the vines are plaited into ropes that run for ten metres and more across the volcanic soil, trained flat and walked between — a system used in this one valley and nowhere else on earth. The tastings happen in guachinches and family bodegas on the north side, where the person pouring usually made it.

The north of Tenerife is a different island from the south.
The trade winds pile cloud against the northern ridges and leave the south in sun, which is why every resort sits at one end and the forests, vineyards and old towns sit at the other. If your week turns grey on the coast, drive over the spine: the weather usually changes with the ridge, and so does the food.
